Wintergreen Resort is one of Virginia’s top ski resorts and for good reason. It is truly a resort for the whole family. It offers swimming, tennis, hiking, skiing, snowboarding, and tubing for the athletic type, a tree house for kids (which also includes a ski lesson), a world class spa for women (although men are welcome as well), and finally, golf for the guys. With an array of condos and several restaurants to choose from, you never have to leave the mountain. They even have a market and gas station.
Though they offer all that and more, most people visit Wintergreen for the skiing. Whether you are a beginner or an expert, they can accommodate you. They have regular slopes and then they have their Terrain Park for freestylers which offers over 40 features such as tabletops and fun boxes, spines and hips, straight rails, rainbow rails, battleships, down kinks, and s-rails.
If you are like me and don’t know where to begin, don’t worry, the do offer ski lessons. I had a wonderful instructor who helped me with the whole process from getting geared up to preparing me to hit the slopes on my own.
Wintergreen offers both skiing and snowboarding lessons. They offer group lessons, private lessons, family lessons, women’s clinics, and full and half day lessons for kids. They also offer lessons for whatever stage you are in on your skiing journey.
I personally had a beginner lesson and man did I learn a lot. First of all, it was pretty difficult to walk through the snow in the ski boots as they were pretty heavy on my feet. Inevitably, you will fall, and in my opinion, getting up is the hardest part of skiing. The instructor will help you with that though. The turning is pretty easy but the stopping takes time. Luckily, they have great instructors that will stay with you every step of the way, making it a fun and enjoyable experience.
